When I began answering my body’s call for attention, I felt I was already too late. In my twenties, I suffered from a devastating knee injury that left me in constant pain and unable to walk. After my injury, I took months off work. It led me down a dark path where I was left wondering,: "Can I ever really trust my body NOT to fail me?"
Doctors visits and talk of surgery began to complicate my life. At my wits end with conventional "pain management", I began to explore simple solutions for pain. These explorations led me to a profound truth; I have all the answers within me. I wasn't too late, and my body hadn’t failed me.
To the contrary, I had embarked on a journey of self-realization and empowerment.
Yoga/qigong classes and massage/chiropractic adjustments did give me relief from my pain. Unfortunately, the relief was temporary, despite numerous visits and years of practice. Gradually the pain would return as I fell back into old patterns or compensation strategies. What I really needed were the methods to create lasting change.
I discovered that my pain wasn't an isolated problem that resulted from an isolated incident. My pain was part of a pattern of body tension. Viewing each pattern as part of a larger whole lead me into many emotional, mental and spiritual insights. I could trace the dots of the pattern, to get to the root of my problem.
Finally, I had my first breakthrough. As I observed my body's response to injury, (By then, I had plenty of examples to pull from!) I found I could release tension through focusing on movement and sensory awareness. This came through my practice of Qi Dao and somatic release. These completely re-shaped my awareness to body, mind and spirit. In addition, I discovered ways to build inner strength and prevent chronic pain from setting in. Since then, I have become dedicated to helping others to heal and prevent injury.
At the end of the day I alone, hold the key to make great changes from within. At the end of the day I am empowered to correct even the slightest misalignments so that I can unlock my greatest potential.
I am a firm believer that pain led me here for a reason. My belief in the healing powers of qigong and sensory awareness is rooted in first-hand experience. 15 years as a yoga and qigong instruction has given me insights into everyone's unique body tension and energy. Combined with 10 years experience as a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA) where I devoted my work to helping my clients shape and condition behavioral change. I use the principles of body mechanics and energy awareness to relieve pain and increase peak performance in everyday living.
I use simple, self-guided methods to help people reclaim their health and enjoy life free from chronic pain. I've presented workshops and classes for pain management in Oregon, Washington, Florida, and Costa Rica.
